The Katie Key Initiative

Honoring a Legacy, Preventing Violence

In 2007, Katie Nicole Key, a bright, spirited student at West Greene High School in Greene County, Tennessee,  lost her life in a tragic act of dating violence. In response to this heartbreaking loss, The Katie Key Initiative was founded to honor Katie's legacy and to help prevent similar tragedies through education, awareness, and support.

Prevention Through Education

The Katie Key Initiative, a program of A Safe Harbor Home, Inc., is dedicated to educating individuals and communities to recognize and prevent dating and domestic violence—cultivating safe, respectful relationships and inspiring collective action for lasting, healthy change. While our focus is on education and prevention rather than crisis intervention, we provide a supportive and informative environment essential to fostering awareness and safety.

Our Two-Part Strategy

  • Preventative Education that empowers teens, parents, families, and communities with knowledge about the dynamics of dating violence, domestic violence, and coercive control.

  • Strategic Partnerships that foster collaboration among schools, churches, civic groups, and organizations to build resilient, supportive communities.

Our Efforts Focus On

  • Facilitating evidence-based education through engaging age appropriate in-depth lessons on dating and domestic violence prevention.

  • Delivering interactive workshops and presentations on healthy relationships, warning signs of abuse and much more.

  • Community referrals to counseling, advocacy, and support services.

Each program is tailored to meet the needs of schools, churches, civic organizations, and businesses. Whether you are a student, parent, educator, or community leader, our resources are designed to spark awareness foster resilience, and create long-term impact.
