A Safe Harbor Home, Inc. | Education for Safer Families
To educate individuals and communities to recognize and prevent dating and domestic violence—cultivating safe, respectful relationships and inspiring collective action for lasting, healthy change.
During her tenure at a fellow national non-profit organization, Lilly Gonzalez actively participated in meetings aimed at addressing pressing social issues within the local community. It was within the confines of these meetings that a glaring and urgent need came to light: Domestic Violence victims found themselves without a safe haven once their limited stay at an emergency shelter came to an end.
In response to this critical issue, Lilly Gonzalez and her husband, Daniel Velez, sprang into action, their commitment unwavering. In the year 2008, they founded A Safe Harbor Home, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Greeneville, Tennessee. The scope of their service reaches across Greene, Carter, Hancock, Hawkins, Sullivan, Washington, Johnson, and Unicoi counties in the northeastern upper region of Tennessee.
A Safe Harbor Home, Inc. is not just a non-profit it is a place of hope and support for those affected by dating and domestic violence. Through the Katie Key Initiative, we provide young people and families with education, resources, and guidance that empower them to build safe healthy relationships. Our programs are designed to help participants move forward with confidence, creating new paths toward brighter, safer futures. Every step we take reflects our deep commitment to making lasting, positive change in the lives of individuals and within our community.
